Radel® R-5500 PPSU: Trusted Strength for Demanding Medical Devices

In the medical world, there’s no room for compromise. Devices need to be durable, safe and precisely engineered — and so do the materials they’re made from. From surgical trays and implant trials to sterilisation cases and reusable instruments, everything depends on performance and reliability.

As clinical procedures grow more complex and expectations continue to rise, manufacturers are under pressure to deliver stronger, safer solutions. That’s why more and more are choosing Radel® R-5500 PPSU.

Orthoplastics brings to market the trusted R-5500 resin, this high-performance thermoplastic is engineered to meet the most demanding medical requirements. It’s a smart, stable choice for manufacturers who won’t settle for less.

Lightweight Strength with Heavy-Duty Performance

Tough, thermally stable and highly durable, Radel® R-5500 PPSU stands up to repeated sterilisation without warping or degrading. It survives over 1,000 autoclave cycles, as well as exposure to gamma, EtO and vapourised hydrogen peroxide, making it ideal for reusable surgical components.

This strength doesn’t come at the cost of weight. In fact, Radel® R-5500 PPSU is significantly lighter than metal, giving manufacturers more flexibility in design without compromising performance.

Whether you’re building housing, handles or precision surgical parts, this material keeps its form and function, procedure after procedure.

Certified Biocompatibility and Patient-Safe

In critical medical applications, safety can’t be a question mark. That’s why Radel® R-5500 PPSU meets ISO 10993 standards for biocompatibility, making it safe for limited exposure uses such as implant trials, sterilisation trays and reusable instruments.

It’s resistant to body fluids, aggressive cleaning agents and high heat, ensuring consistent performance and long-term peace of mind for patients and professionals alike. All of our resins are certified, and we’re currently awaiting certification for our extruded rod offering.

Colour-Coded and Ready to Go

In fast-paced clinical environments, visibility matters. Radel® R-5500 PPSU is available in a focused range of colours, with more on the way in 2026:

  • NT15 (Natural) – PMS 7527 C – RAL 1013

  • BK 937 (Black) – PMS Black C – RAL 9004

  • BU 1027 (Blue) – PMS 647 C – RAL 5005

  • GY 1037 (Cool Grey) – PMS Cool Grey 7 C – RAL 7004

These options make visual identification easier, supporting safer workflows and smarter organisation.

The material is supplied in 5ft (1524mm) lengths, with standard diameters of 26mm, 40mm, 54mm, 63mm and 75mm. Custom sizes are available upon request, allowing you to scale and adapt as needed.
